NEWPORT R.I. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team took 11th at the Gill Coed Eastern Semifinals, hosted by Brown University and Salve Regina University, last weekend on the waters of Newport Harbor.

With just the top nine teams moving on to the championship regatta, the 'Bows narrowly missed advancing after finishing with a score of 327. the College of Charleston topped the Eastern division (140), while Yale won the Western division with a score of 118.

The 'Bows' A Division squad was led by skipper Chuck Eaton, who sailed in 10 of the 14 races along with Patrick Manuel (1-4, 11-14) and Cuylar Zimmerman (5-6). However, Eaton was pulled out and replaced by Mackenzie Cook for races 11-14 after suffering a minor head injury. The team landed 13th out of 20 squads overall. Eaton and Zimmerman remarkably sailed for a team-high second place finish in one race, but the score was not enough to push the 'Bows within the top nine.

Giacomo Paoletti, along with Jeremy Hitchcock, Katrina Berry and Cole Brauer made up the B Division squad and landed 12th overall after finishing 14 races with a score 164.
