Track & Field Places Sixth At Big West Championships

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team placed sixth at the 2015 Big West Conference Championship which concluded Saturday at UC Riverside Track Facility.

The Rainbow Wahine totaled 55 points and picked up four medals, including golds by Alex Porlier Langlois (shot put) and Rachel Toliver (triple jump) on Saturday. For Porlier Langlois, she had outstanding showing in her final conference meet having also placed second in the discus and 15th in the hammer throw.

CSUN captured the team title with 212 total points followed by defending champion UC Davis (168), Cal Poly (102), UC Santa Barbara (80), UC Riverside (69), UH, Long Beach State (52), Cal State Fullerton (42), and UC Irvine (39).

Porlier Langlois began the day by throwing a huge personal best in the hammer of 169-10 (51.78m) then proceeded to win the shot put competition on her very first throw. The St.-Cesaire, Quebec native heaved 52-6 1/2 (16.01m) to win the event for the first time after posting silvers in the past two seasons.

In front of family and friends, Toliver won the triple jump with a mark of 41-9 1/4 (12.73m), which moved her up to No. 2 on the school's all-time list. The mark was also a new UC Riverside Stadium record.

Senior Louise Mulvey placed sixth in the 800-meter finals in a PR time of 2:10.97.

Seniors Joanna Franke-Kuhn and Jacqueline Donovan capped their careers by placing 11th and 20th, respectively, in the hammer throw. Franke-Kuhn threw 169-10 while Donovan heaved 151-3. 

Sophomore Kayla Phillips placed 10th in the triple jump with a PR-tying mark of 38-1 1/2 (11.62m). Freshman Sha'tres Ah Nee tied for ninth in the high jump, clearing 5-1 1/4 (1.56m). In the shot put competition, junior Charlinda Ioane and sophomore Sabrina Mendoza took seventh and 14th with throws of 46-0 3/4 and 40-9 1/2, respectively.

Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is the NCAA Championships First Round, May 28-30, in Austin, Texas. UH will find out who will qualified for the preliminary round in the coming days.
