RIVERSIDE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i women's track and field team picked up two medals, Friday, at the Big West Conference Championships at UC Riverside Track Facility.
Alex Porlier Langlois captured silver in the discus and
Felicianna Vazquez won bronze in the javelin.
Porlier Langlois entered the competition ranked No. 3 in the discus and nearly came away with a gold, falling five inches short of champion Monique Griffiths of CSUN, who threw a winning mark of 170-6 (51.97m). The St.-Cesaire, Quebec native heaved a personal-best 170-1 (51.85m) on her fourth throw. She will compete in the shot put on Saturday, which she enters the competition ranked No. 2 in the Big West.
Senior
Charlinda Ioane placed eighth with a throw of 153-7 (46.82m).
One week after placing 16
th in the heptathlon, Vazquez grabbed third place in the javelin with a PR throw of 138-1 (42.10m), which moved her up two spots to No. 7 on the school's all-time list.
Three Rainbow Wahine pole vaulters scored team points led by sophomore
Amber Kozaki's fourth place finish. The Wailuku, Maui native posted the second highest jump of 12-4 (3.76m) with four other vaulters while senior
Robyn Morioka and junior
Tiziana Ruiz Dominguez each cleared 11-10 (3.61m) to place sixth and seventh, respectively.
Senior
Louise Mulvey qualified for Saturday's 800-meter finals after placing seventh in qualifying with a time of 2:11.95.
The meet concludes on Saturday with event finals on the track and several field events, including women's hammer throw, triple jump, shot put, and high jump.
