SAN JOSE, Calif.-- The No. 68 University of Hawai`i women's tennis team fell to No. 55 San Jose State, 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Spartan Tennis Courts.
The Spartans took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point taking two out of the three matches. UH's No. 3 duo of
Klara Pribylova and
Viktoria Malova cruised past SJSU's Julianna Bacelar and Abigail Pahz, 6-1, but the Spartans came back with the No. 2 duo of Sybille Gauvain and Malin Cubukcu defeating UH's
Rebecca Faltusz and
Cindy Nguyen in a close match, 7-5 to even the doubles score at 1-1. It all came down to the No. 1 doubles where UH's
Martina Kostalova and
Paulina Petriskova gave it their all but were edged out by SJSU's Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey, 7-5.
In singles action, the `Bows dropped the first three singles results which gave San Jose State the sweep. UH's Gealer kept things close with SJSU's Julianna Bacelar, but fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. The Spartans Gaelle Rey rolled past the `Bows' Kostalova, 6-2, 6-0, while UH's Faltusz fell to SJSU's Abigail Pahz, 6-2, 6-1 to give the Spartans the win.
The Rainbow Wahine's next match will be against Big West opponent, UC Davis at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on Saturday, April 4 at 11:00 a.m. (PT)
