Katie Spieler and
Olivia Urban competed to a runner-up finish in the gold bracket on Saturday at the Sand Volleyball Showcase at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
Competing in the pairs tournament were teams from Grand Canyon, San Jose State, Hawai'i Pacific, and the host 'Bows.
Tucker and Schucht cruised to a 21-19, 21-14 in their finals win, but had to rally for a thrilling semifinals win against another UH tandem in
Gianna Guinasso and
Hannah Zalopany 14-21, 21-17, 18-16. Schucht posted an impressive 26 kills in the win.
Grand Canyon's Shannon Dugan and Mackenzie Phelps won the gold bracket title after handily beating UH's No. 2 and No. 1 pairs in the semifinals and final, respectively. They took care of
Brittany Tiegs and
Sammie Brown, who played together for the first time this season, 21-18, 21-19 before posting an equally dominant 21-15, 21-15 win over Urban and Spieler in the final.
Brown had arguably the best performance of the day 'Bows with 30 digs and 14 kills in the semifinal loss to Dugan and Phelps.
The 'Bows retake the courts on Saturday for Senior Night at the Outrigger Resorts Invitational. UH will play the same three teams in dual competition beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the Ching Courts. OCSports will broadcast the final two matches of the competition beginning at 7:00 p.m. Seniors

Sammie Brown will be honored with a special ceremony following the tournament.
