No. 64 Hawai‘i Edges Cal State Fullerton on Senior Day, 4-3

HONOLULU -- The No. 64 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team edged Big West opponent, 4-3 on Senior Day this afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. It was the final home match for two Rainbow Wahine--Martina Kostalova and Rebecca Faltusz.

In doubles, UH's No. 3 duo of Sarah Gealer and Viktoria Malova cruised past Titans Emilia Borkowski and Kalika Slevcove 8-3. The Rainbow Wahine was not able to answer the last two doubles matches where the Titans clinched the doubles point. In the No. 1 doubles match, UH's Kostalova and Cindy Nguyen fell in a close match to CSUF's Megan Sandford and Camille De Leon, 8-6. UH's No. 2 duo of Faltusz and Paulina Petriskova gave it all they have, but could not clinch the doubles point, falling to Titan's Danielle Pham and Alexis Valenzuela in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7).

In singles action, No. 1 Nguyen earned the Rainbow Wahine's first point in singles beating CSF's Alexis Valenzuela in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. It was her seventh win in her last eight matches. The `Bows' Malova was the second to finish, cruising past Titans' Camille De Leon on the No. 2 court, 6-3, 6-2.  Faltusz gave an outstanding last home performance, beating CSF's Emilia Borkowski in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 to give the `Bows a 3-1 lead. The Titans did not stop fighting though, in the No. 4 position, Fullerton's Danielle Pham defeated UH's Sarah Gealer 6-2, 6-3 to cut the Rainbow Wahine's lead to 3-2. Freshman Klara Pribylova however was the hero of the match as she clinched it for the Rainbow Wahine, beating Kalika Slevcove in a nail-biting three setter, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. Also coming close in a three set match was senior Kostalova, where she fought hard for every point, but could not pick up the win, falling to Titans' Megan Sandford, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

The 'Bows will play their next match on the road against Big West opponent Cal Poly on March 23 in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The match will start at 11:00 a.m. PT.
