HONOLULU -- The No. 48 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team played a solid match on Thursday afternoon, defeating Grand Canyon, 5-2 at the UH Tennis Complex.

UH was not able to snatch the doubles point to begin the match. UH's No. 1 duo of Cindy Nguyen and Klara Pribylova fell to Grand Canyon's Priscilla Annoual and Tatum Prudhomme, 6-2. But UH punched back in the No. 3 doubles when Hawai`i's Martina Kostalova and Sarah Gealer cruised past Grand Canyon's Lana Rinaldi and Lana Macukat, 6-2. The Rainbow Wahine's duo of Viktoria Malova and Rebecca Faltusz gave up a good fight against Antelopes' Alexandra Petrzalkova and Silvia Tumova, but could not come up with the win, losing, 6-2, giving Grand Canyon the doubles point.
 
The Rainbow Wahine gave out an outstanding performance for the crowd in singles play. UH's Faltusz was able to give UH their first point, winning against Grand Canyon's Alexandra Petrzalkova, 6-2, 7-5 on the No. 4 court. Gealer then tied up the match at 2-2 winning in the No. 5 position against Lana Macukat, 7-6 (4), 6-4, while No. 3 Kostalova gave UH a 3-2 lead, defeating Antelopes' Silvia Tumova 6-4, 7-6 (3). Freshman Viktoria Malova clinched the match for the `Bows winning in an epic three-setter against Tatum Prudhomme, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. No. 1 Cindy Nguyen also pulled out a three-set win to round out the match, defeating Annoual, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

UH will next play against No. 43 San Diego State on Saturday, Feb. 25. Matches will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
