Women's Sailing Finishes Seventh At USF Regatta

Full Results

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The University of Hawai'i women's sailing team finished seventh at the University of South Florida Women's regatta, Sunday afternoon in Tampa Bay. Through the weekend's tough conditions, the two Rainbow Wahine squads finished with a combined score of 289.

Saturday afternoon's rough tidal current and shifting winds were not kind to the sailors. However, the competitors prevailed through nine races with no protests or breakdowns through the entire day. Sunday morning started off slow without a trace of even a dying breeze, but the races finally commenced once a southerly breeze hit the harbor at noon.

Caitlin Schadt with Madeline Anzivino and Shawna Koch rotating sailed for the Rainbow Wahine B division squad, and led UH with 143 points, taking fifth place in race number five.

Meanwhile, Louise Currie, Jazlyner Rojas and Shawna Koch sailed for the A squad with 146 points, landing eighth in their best race of the weekend.
Regatta host South Florida finished in first overall with a total of 142 points.

The 'Bows sailing team returns to action Feb. 28 for the  Stanford Team Race in Stanford, Calif.
