HONOLULU – The No. 7 University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team defeated No. 14 Cal State Northridge, 25-21, 25-12, 28-30, 30-28 Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH improves to a 10-3, 7-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Record.

Brook Sedore led the Rainbow Warriors with 18 kills towards a career total 909, and a career-high six service aces. Additionally,

Kolby Kanetake also tallied new career-highs, with 14 kills and 21 digs, respectively. Meanwhile, Sam Holt led the Matadors (5-9, 3-7 MPSF) with a team-high 13 kills.
The Warriors led 15-11 midway through Set 1, and quickly broke away with a 5-1 run for a six-point advantage over CSUN, 20-14. In an attempt to make a comeback, the Matadors answered back with a 5-2 run of their own, cutting UH's lead down to just a three points at 22-19. After three chances at set point,
Davis Holt cut off the Matadors with a cut-shot to end it 25-21.
UH dominated Set 2, hitting at .750 (13-1-16) to the Matadors' -.150 (5-8-20).Following a timeout on the floor, the 'Bows quickly soared past CSUN on an 11-1 run, with Sedore ending the set 25-12 for the 900
th kill of his career.
The Matadors started off Set 3 strong, scoring six unanswered points for an early 9-4 lead. However, UH answered back with an 11-4 run to sneak back and steal the lead 15-13. Unwilling to give up, CSUN took the lead back again, 17-15 dishing out four points in a row but after Sedore pulled off five kills in a row for the Warriors, Averill followed up with three in a row to take the 'Bows to set-point, 24-23. Unable to cap the set, UH's service error would be the first of five match-points of the Warriors would fall short on. With three kills in a row, the Matadors finally ended it 30-28.
After trailing for most of Set 4, the 'Bows made a huge comeback on an 8-3 run all the way until they had match-point. However, after a service error and a Matadors' kill, they were back to square one tied at 24. Following another four opportunities to end it, UH was finally able to pull through with back-to-back blocks for the victory.
UH will conclude the series against CSUN on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 5:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
