AUGUSTA, Ga. -- University of Hawai'i junior punter and place kicker Rigoberto Sanchez has made waves at his position this season on the national stage and has garnered a pair of recent honors in recognition of his efforts for the Rainbow Warriors this season.
 
Late last week, Sanchez was listed among the candidates for the Ray Guy Award, given out annually to the top collegiate punter of the year and to be distributed at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 10.
 
The list of candidates will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists to be announced on November 13. Following the semifinalists announcement, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, who will be identified on November 23. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner.
 
Sanchez drew notice for his performance last week in the loss to Air Force, earning Ray Guy Award Player of the Week nationally. Sanchez had a total of seven punts and 364 yards against the Falcons. He averaged 52 yards per punt with four punts marked inside the 20-yard line and no touchbacks His 73-yard fourth quarter punt ranked in a tie for fifth-longest in program history.
 
For the second year in a row, Hawai'i has a player receiving recognition from the Award committee, as Scott Harding finished as a semifinalist in 2014.
 
Sanchez and the Rainbow Warriors travel to their final road contest of the 2015 campaign on Saturday, meeting UNLV in Las Vegas at 1:00 p.m. HT. The game can be viewed live on Oceanic Time Warner (Digital Ch. 255 and HD Ch. 1255) and Hawaiian Telcom Pay-Per-View (Ch. 969).
