HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men's and women's swimming and diving team concluded its home-opening dual-meets against the United States Air Force Academy on Friday afternoon at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The Rainbow Wahine defeated the Falcons, 169-130, while the Warriors fell 116-168.Â
The UH women won eight of 16 events and were led by freshmen pair Jane Ip, who took gold in both the 100 back (1:05.29) and 200 breast (2:19.91) and Tahna Lindquist, who won the 200 back (2:02.43). Sophomore Franziska Weidner also finished with the top mark in the 100 free, posting a time of 52.25.The Rainbow Wahine additionally won relay events in 400 free (3:28.54), and 200 medley (1:48.51).Â
Meanwhile the diving squad swept all events as usual, with seniors Aimee Harrison and Lauren Hall taking gold in the 3-meter (334.00) and 1-meter (327.65), respectively. The men's diving team, despite the temporary absence of senior Amund Gismervik, also swept both events with Johan Sandell topping the competition after posting a score of 357.05 on the 1-meter and 367.05 on the 3-meter.Â
Freshman Micah Ornellas led the Rainbow Warrior swimmers, winning the 200 IM (1:51.36) and taking second in the 100 back (50.22). Kacy Johnson also had a standout performance against the Falcons, with three second-place finishes in the 500 free (4:33.10), 200 free (1:40.21), and 200 fly (1:52.09).Â
Next, the 'Bows will split up, as the swimmers head to Monterey Park, Calif. for the prestigious A3 Performance Invitational (Nov. 19-21), while the divers head to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Diving Invitational (Nov. 19-21).Â
