HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team conceded a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes, falling 2-0 to UCI Irvine in Big West Conference action on Thursday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The match was senior night for Rainbow Wahine players
Amanda Bates,
Erica Young,
Lidia Battaglia and
Tiana Fujimoto who were honored after the game with a special ceremony on the field.
The 'Bows (3-14-1, 0-8 BWC) were pushed in their defensive half for much of the game but kept UC Irvine (7-10-1, 3-4 BWC) out of the back of the net heading into the final 10 minutes. That's when Kiana Palacios took over, scoring on a breakaway in the 84
th minute then gave UCI an insurance goal in the 88
th minute, finishing to the far post off a Clarissa Robles service.
Young had a strong game in net in her final one as a Rainbow Wahine. She made six saves under constant pressure for large parts of the match, especially the second half where the Anteaters posted 11 shots and earned nine corner kicks.
Fujimoto was aggressive on attack in her final game, forcing UCI goalkeeper Corey Tobin to make saves on both. Tobin made four saves in her shutout performance. Strom Kenui added a pair of shots on goal as well.
