LONG BEACH, Calif. – Sarah Lau scored her first career goal to give her team an early lead, another to tie the game late, but it couldn't prevent a heartbreaking loss as Long Beach State scored in the 90^th minute to beat the University of Hawai'i women's soccer team 3-2 on Sunday night at George Allen Field.
 
With the loss, the 'Bows (3-13-1, 0-7 BWC) finish with a winless road record and will search for their first Big West Conference win when they face UC Irvine this Thursday in their season finale.
 
Lau's first goal came off a corner kick less than five minutes into the game. Madison Reed delivered the kick right to the freshman who finished for the first time as a collegiate athlete.
 
Hawai'i held the lead until about midway through the first half when the Beach (10-5-3, 5-2 BWC) scored a pair of goals less than four minutes apart to take a 2-1 lead. Ashley Gonzales tied the game in the 29^th minute then Hannah Sanders put the 49ers up with a goal in the 33^rd minute.
 
The 'Bows saw several chances in the second half fail to materialize until Lau put home her second to tie the game in the 79^th minute. The game appeared headed to overtime but the Beach had other ideas. LBSU gave UH a tough pill to swallow when Gonzales scored her second goal of the match, this one a gamewinner with just 40 seconds left.
 
Monk Berger got the start in goal and posted three saves. Imani MacDonald had seven saves for Long Beach State.
 
UH's season finale against UC Irvine is set for 7:00 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 29. The game will be Senior Night as departing players Lidia Battaglia, Amanda Bates, Erica Young, and Tiana Fujimoto will be honored.
