Box Score (html)FULLERTON, Calif. – In search of its first Big West Conference win this season, the University of Hawai'i women's soccer team came up empty in a 4-0 defeat to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at Titan Stadium.
Rebecca Wilson scored a hat trick for CSF (10-3-1, 2-1 BWC) and nearly added a fourth but settled for an assist after her shot off the post was followed up for the Titans' third goal. The 'Bows (3-10-1, 0-4 BWC) trailed by just one goal at the half but could not stop CSF's second-half onslaught.
The Titans' goal in the first half came after continued chances down the right flank, as they switched the field and cashed in from the wing on the left side. Connie Caliz served a ball to Wilson who appeared to knock the ball of her back, finishing past Berger to the near post.
The second half became the Wilson show, contributing on each her team's goals to help CSF win going away. Wilson scored her second in the 56
th minute as Berger misjudged a Jessica Simone cross that she got her head to, scoring the empty netter. After adding another goal, Wilson helped put the game away when Ivy Diego finished a rebound off the far post, then completed her hat trick not even two minutes later to seal the win.
The Titans had the better of the 'Bows early in the game, but UH began to put together some nice possession which led to the best early chance for either team.
Sonest Furtado was played a nice ball into the CSF penalty box before she took a rip on goal that bounced off the crossbar and back into play.
Tiana Fujimoto had a chance on the rebound but her shot sailed wide right of the goal.
UH returns home to play one game against CSUN before heading back out on the road for another two-game conference road trip. The 'Bows and Matadors will play Sunday, Oct. 18 at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
