No. 43 Washington Holds Off Hawai‘i, 5-2

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team fell to No. 43 Washington, 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The Huskies captured the doubles point with Miki Kobayashi and Angela Chen defeating UH's Paulina Petriskova and Viktoria Malova, then UW's Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu took the point knocking off the 'Bows' Sarah Gealer and Cindy Nguyen.

In singles, UH battled, but came up just short. Hawai'i's Viktoria Malova fought hard but fell to Washington's Grace Ysidora, 6-4, 7-5. UH's Sarah Gealer and Rebecca Faltusz were the only two to win their singles matches. Gealer earned UH's first point of the day by beating Julija Lukac in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5 while Rebecca Faltusz had an intense three-set battle against Angela Chen. Faltusz won the first set easily 6-1, but Chen came back strong to win the second set 6-2. In the third set, Faltusz was the one that came out strong and had great momentum coming into the third set winning it, 6-4.

The Rainbow Wahine will remain at home to host UC Riverside in a conference match on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11:00 am.
