HONOLULU – The No. 20 University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team rallied from a set down and an 11-3  set four deficit to top St. John's 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22 on Saturday in the final day of the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic.

Olivia Magill had a phenomenal afternoon for the 'Bows (4-2). Her 12 blocks set a new UH rally scoring record for blocks in a four-set match. She also hit .538 with 15 kills and just one error.

Karin Palgutova had a match-high 18 kills for the Red Storm who fall to 5-2.

Set one saw St. John's distance themselves midway through to earn the win. Briana Guzman (3 kills, 7 blocks) and Mona Karkkainen (4 kills, 4 blocks) both got in on a pair of blocks to break a 7-7 tie. A Magill kill and blocks assists by Kalei Greeley (11 kills, 9 digs) and Kalei Adolpho (5 kills, 6 blocks) forced a late Red Storm timeout, but it wasn't enough as SJU cruised to the win.

The second set was again close in the early going but this time it was the 'Bows who surged ahead. A Ginger Long (5 kills, 6 blocks) kill capped a three-point spurt to put Hawai'i ahead 10-6, then a Greeley kill extended the lead to 16-10.

The intermission did nothing to stop the UH momentum as the 'Bows never trailed en route to their set three win. A Greeley kill and Tai Manu-Olevao (13 kills, 9 digs) ace highlighted a 5-1 run midway through the set and the 'Bows kept the Red Storm at bay to take a 2-1 set lead.

SJU opened an eight-point lead in set four and a deciding set five seemed inevitable. The 'Bows had other ideas, however, and went on a furious run to tie the score at 15-15. SJU responded to take a late two-point lead, but UH again rallied and grabbed its first lead at 20-19. Hawai'i then raced to the finish line with Long recording the final kill to win the match.

The 'Bows will take part in their final preseason tournament next week when they host the Outrigger Resorts Volleyball Challenge. Hawai'i will play Utah State, UCLA, and close the tournament against San Francisco.
