WAIPAHU, O`ahu – The University of Hawaii women's soccer team captured the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi championship with a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Seattle Monday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Krystal Pascua scored the golden goal in the 92nd minute to lift the Rainbow Wahine to their second straight win.

It was a sister combination as Kama Pascua played a ball near the top of the box to Krsytal Pascua, who found space and fired a left-footer that lofted far post over the out-stretched arm of Seattle goalkeeper Brianna Smallidge. It was the second goal of the year for the senior forward.

Just minutes earlier—in  ithe waning moments of regulation—Smallidge stopped two hard shots by both Pascua sisters to assure overtime. 

It was a tale of two halves, as UH (2-2) held a 1-0 lead at the break after holding the RedHawks (2-2) without a shot in the first frame. Seattle, however, found its rhythm in the final 30 minutes of regulation to equalize and send the game into another period.

The Rainbow Wahine got on the board first when they were the beneficiary of an own goal in the 23rd minute. Ryan Daniel serviced the ball into the box and TJ Reyno volleyed the ball far post where it deflected off a Seattle defender and into the back of the net.

UH played without its most experienced defender in Lidia Battaglia, who sat out due to a red card in last week's game versus Northern Illinois. Storm Kenui slid to the backline, while sophomore Erica Young earned he  first start of the year in goal.  Despite the changes, UH was stout for the first 60 minutes of the match.

However, the RedHawks, finally got some offense going as Stephanie Verdoia scored on a breakaway at the 59:28 mark. Seattle out-shot UH 9-8 in the second-half, but UH buckled down and did not allow another score.  

UH will continue its six-match season-opening home stand when it host top-ranked and defending national champion UCLA in the Outrigger Resorts Soccer Classic on Friday, Sept. 5. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. with Pepperdine and Washington State preceding the match at 4:30 p.m.
