MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Hawai'i soccer team continues its two-week long road trip with the Montana Invitational on Sept. 19 and 21. The Rainbow Wahine (3-5) face Eastern Washington (2-2) on Sept. 19 and host Montana (3-4) on Sept. 21. Both matches start at 1:00 p.m. MT/9:00 a.m. HT.
The Rainbow Wahine have already played two other Big Sky opponents to start their trip, splitting a pair of matches at Weber State and Idaho State.
T.J. Reyno scored the game-winner 30 seconds into overtime to lift UH to a 4-3 win at Weber State to start the trip on Sept. 12. UH looked poise to bag its second straight road win two days later at Idaho State, but could not hold on to a two-goal lead in an eventual 5-4 loss to the Bengals.
UH's kicks off the Montana Invitational against an Eastern Washington squad which will be playing its first match in a two weeks. The Eagles last played on Sept. 5, falling at Seattle 4-1. The Rainbow Wahine defeated Seattle earlier this year in Honolulu, 2-1, in overtime. This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the squads.
UH and Montana will also meet for the fourth time ever and first time since 2008. The teams share two common opponents in Texas and Washington State. UH fell to those squads by 2-1 and 3-1 counts, respectively, while the Grizzlies lost to both by identical 2-0 scores. Montana has played all of its first seven matches on the road and will play at home for the first time this year.
This will be UH's second appearance in Montana after going 2-0 in the 2004 Montana Fall Classic with wins over New Mexico (1-0) and Gonzaga (3-0).
UH has been lethal offensively, averaging 2.12 goals per match, including eight combined goals in its first two road matches. Eight different players have scored for UH, led by
Sonest Furtado,
Storm Kenui and
Krystal Pascua with three goals each. The 'Bows, however, have been porous on defense, surrendering 3.37 goals per match.
