Cross Country Completes First Mainland Competition

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's cross country team completed its first mainland competition with a 23rd place finish at the UC Riverside Invitational Saturday at Agricultural Operations Course located near the UCR campus.
 
For the second straight race, freshman Montana Martinez was UH's top finisher, completing the 6K race in 23:35.7 for 121st place. Following closely behind was senior Louise Mulvey, who crossed the finish line in 24:11.4 for 133rd place.
 
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were junior Hayley Musashi (25:26.6/159th), freshman Melissa Chadwick (25:36.9/160th), and senior Tiare Nakashima (26:55.2/166th).
 
Utah Valley captured the team title with 95 total points and three runners placing in the Top 20. UC Santa Barbara's Daniella Moreno took the individual title with a time of 20:25.5 followed by UCR's Raquel Hefflin (20:33.4).
 
The Big West Conference Championships will be held on the same course later this season.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the BYU-Hawai'i Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 20 in La'ie, O'ahu.
