Former UH Swim Coach Jan Prins To Coach US Wounded Warrior Team

HONOLULU – Former University of Hawai'i men's swimming coach Dr. Jan Prins will join the coaching staff for the United States Wounded Warrior swimming team competing at the inaugural Invictus Games held in London from Sept. 10-14. All swimming events will take place at the London Aquatics Centre which served as the aquatics venue for the 2012 Olympic Games.
 
Prins, who is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Kinesiology and Director of the Aquatic Research Laboratory at UH-Manoa, coached at Hawai'i from 1978-87 where he developed the 'Bows into a nationally recognized program.
 
"I consider it a great honor to be invited to coach our Wounded Warriors," said Prins who also is the founder and director of Swim Hawaii," especially at this special international event that recognizes the contribution of our armed forces."
 
Prins has been an olympic and paralympic coach, and has worked with the Wounded Warrior program for a number of years. Starting with the US Marine Corps, and recently with the servicemen of the Special Operations Command, he has conducted a number of training clinics around the country.
 
The Invictus Games will include participants from 14 countries and be conducted according to the rules and guidelines of the International Paralympic Games. Over 100 athletes will represent the United States over sixteen sports, with a coaching staff of over thirty coaches and support staff.
