Rainbow Wahine Sailors Place 15th At Nationals

Final Scores

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –The University of Hawai'i women's sailing team wrapped up its season by finishing 15th at the 2014 Sperry Top-Sider ICSA Women's National Championship at the US Naval Academy. After a rough start during the opening day of the final round on Thursday, the Rainbow Wahine had a much stronger performance on the final day of competition while moving up three spots.

Dartmouth edged out Yale to successfully defend its 2013 national title and claim the Gerald C Miller Trophy. Host Navy came in a distant third-place.

Seven races were completed on Friday in each the A and B divisions after a brief weather delay to start the day. UH strung together a trio of top three finishes, including a win in the fifth B division race of the day.  The 'Bows posted 414 points total with Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry claiming 11th in the A division (168 points) and Louise Currie, Annie Kelly and Cecilia Jansson placing 18th in the B division (246).

The coed sailors will compete in the ICSA Gill Coed National Championship, June 3-6, in Saint Mary's, Md., with Kennedy and Berry joining four other UH coed sailors.
