Rainbow Wahine Begin Finals Of ICSA Nationals

Full Scores

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine sailing team is in 18th place after the first day of the final round of the 2014 Sperry Top-Sider ICSA Women's National Championship at the US Naval Academy.

The sailors saw a sharp change in the weather from the semifinals. After 80-degree temperatures earlier in the week, an overnight cold front dropped the temperatures down into the 50s with steady rain and overcast skies. Ten races were completed on Thursday in both A-division and B-division with eight races left in each division to complete the regatta.

UH, which, had a steady, sixth-place performance in the semifinal round, did not fare as well to open the finals posting a total of 266 points. UH started strong, placing second after the first pair of races but dipped dramatically thereafter. The 'Bows got a decent showing from the A division tandem of Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry who ranked 11th with 106 points. However, the B division team of Louise Currie, Annie Kelly and Cecilia Jansson struggled, amassing 160 points—34 points from its nearest competitor.

Yale currently leads the regatta with 110 points and are a mere three points ahead of second –place Dartmouth.  Racing is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. EDT on Friday.

The top three women's teams will be presented with the Gerald C. Miller Trophy for first place, the New England Women's Trophy for second place and the Ann Campbell Trophy for third.
