Rainbow Wahine Sailors Move On To ICSA National Finals

Complete Results

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (May 28, 2014) – The University of Hawaii women's sailing team  secured a spot in the final round of the ICSA Women's National Championship after Thursday's conclusion of the semifinals.

UH maintained its sixth place standing from the first day of competition to make the nine-team cutoff in the Western Bracket. The Rainbow Wahine  are one of 18 teams who will compete in the two-day final round on May 29-30, pared down from the  28 teams that started the week in the  Western and Eastern semifinal groups.

The Western bracket completed five races Wednesday in both A and B-divisions for a total of 11 races for the event. UH finished with 152 points, a good 17 points ahead of 10th place Cornell. Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry sailed for UH in the A division, while Cecilia Jansson, Annie Kelly, and Louise Currie sailed in the B division. Yale University was leading the Western fleet after the first day of racing and were able to hold on to its lead on Wednesday, finishing with 69 points.

The scoreboard is wiped clean for the finals Thursday, so teams will start fresh in the new event. The Sperry Top-Sider Women's National Championship finals racing will begin Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. EDT. The top 18 teams will be competing for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy over the next two days.
