Rainbow Wahine In Sixth At ICSA National Semifinals

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine sailing team is in sixth place after the first day of the ICSA Women's National Championship semifinals hosted by the US Naval Academy.

This year's women's field includes 28 teams vying for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy. The first two days of competition is the semifinal round in which the schools compete in two 14-team brackets. The Rainbow Wahine –competing in the Western Bracket—look to finish in the top nine in their bracket to advance to the final round of 18 teams which will take place May 29-30.

UH is poised to advance thanks to a strong effort by the pair of Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry in the A division. The duo finished in the top three in three of its six races to tally 34 points.  Cecilia Jansson, Annie Kelly, and Louise Currie sailed in the B division for UH and amassed 44 points. With 78 points, UH is 18 points ahead of 10th place Wisconsin. Yale leads the bracket with a low of 41 points.

Day two of the semifinals will  begin at around  9:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday with the race course either on the Severn River off the Robert Crown Sailing Center or off Triton Point, depending on the wind.
