Track & Field Goes The Distance At SFSU Meet

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team posted several big performances at the San Francisco State's Distance Carnival, Saturday at Cox Stadium.
 
With temperatures warming up to the 60s, the Rainbow Wahine also heated up on the track.
 
Among the notable performances was sophomore Charlinda Ioane, who was a double winner with seasonal-best throws in both the shot put (45-7.25/13.90m) and discus (149-1/45.44m).
 
Fellow thrower Alex Porlier-Langlois placed second in both events, including her first discus competition of the season in which she easily achieved the Big West qualifying standard. Porlier-Longlois threw 147-3 (44.89m) in the discus and 45-5 (13.84m) in the shot.
 
Senior Samantha Esperanza was also a double winner, capturing the 400-meter Hurdles with a personal best of 1:03.76 and winning the 100-meter Hurdles in a time of 14.58 seconds.
 
Junior Zhane Santiago was runner-up in the 100 Hurdles with a seasonal best and Big West qualifying time of 14.61 seconds.
 
Senior Ashley Satterwhite won the 200-meter sprint with a Big West qualifying time of 25.10 seconds while senior Kaleigh Morrision achieved two personal bests in the javelin (126-1/38.44m), where she placed third, and in the 200m (26.19).
 
The Rainbow Wahine return to Honolulu to host the Rainbow Relays, Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
