Game NotesHONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball team will take a break from Big West Conference play this week and host the New York Institute of Technology for a four-game series at Les Murakami Stadium. The 'Bows and Bears will play Friday, May 2 (6:35 p.m.), a doubleheader on Saturday, May 3 (3:35 p.m.), and close the series on Sunday, May 4 (1:05 p.m.).
The 'Bows (15-25, 3-12 Big West) are coming off their longest road trip of the season, one that resulted in just one win. UH lost two of three games at Cal State Northridge before dropping a midweek game at USC and getting swept at Cal State Fullerton. Hawai'i sits tied with UC Davis for last in the conference.
Pitching continues to be a strength for the Rainbow Warriors and was evident despite the sweep at Cal State Fullerton. In the opener,
Matt Cooper tossed nine scoreless innings and struck out a career-high 11 hitters but saw his team lose on a walk-off hit in the 10
th inning.
In the finale,
Jarrett Arakawa and
Scott Kuzminsky shared the mound duties with each giving up just one run. Kuzminsky's run unfortunately came on a squeeze play in the bottom of the 11
th as Hawai'i dropped its second walk-off defeat of the series.
Marc Flores continues to be UH's most productive hitter. He leads the team in homeruns (4), RBI (32), and slugging percentage (.435), and is tied with
Kaeo Aliviado for the team lead in doubles (7).
NYIT enters the series with a 4-36 record with the nation's second-lowest RPI.
