NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball team dropped its eighth straight game, falling to Cal State Northridge 2-1 on a walk-off hit in the ninth inning on Friday at Matador Field.
 
Scott Kuzminsky allowed just one run in six and one-third innings, but it was Northridge starter Jeremy Keel who handled the UH lineup. Keel tossed eight and two-thirds innings, allowing one unearned run with 10 strikeouts and at one point retiring 17 straight hitters.
 
Quintin Torres-Costa (2-1) suffered the loss for UH (14-21, 2-9 Big West), pitching two innings and allowing the gamewinning run. Torres-Costa issued a lead-off walk to Dylan Alexander (1 H, 1 R, 1 RBI) in the ninth which later led to William Colantano's game-winning RBI double.
 
Colantano led Northridge with two hits and one RBI and Brett Balkan had two hits before being ejected in the fifth inning after lowering his shoulder trying to score on a play at the plate.
 
Aggressive baserunning by Jordan Richartz (1 H, 1 R) put Hawai'i on the scoreboard first. Richartz got caught in no man's land off of third base when a Trevor Podratz (1 RBI) grounder went right to Keel. Richartz quickly decided to sprint home and crossed the base before Keel could make the tag to give UH a 1-0 lead I the second inning.
 
Alexander's double tied the game for the Matadors (15-23, 4-7 Big West) in the bottom of the second before Matador pitching and Rainbow Warrior defense took over the game. Austin Wobrock at shortstop and Adam Hurley from left field both threw out runners at the plate, the latter leading to Balkan's ejection. Meanwhile, Keel's dominance kept the 'Bows from getting any momentum going at the plate.
 
The 'Bows and Matadors conclude their series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PT (10:00 a.m. HT).
