Morrison Places Eighth At California Heptathlon

AZUSA, Calif. – University of Hawai'i multi-event athlete Kaleigh Morrison placed eighth at the California Heptathlon after Thursday's second day of competition at the Azusa Pacific's Cougar Stadium.
 
The Tigard, Ore., native totaled a personal best 5,186 points, which is the second best total in school history, behind All-American Annett Wichmann. Morrison tallied PRs in all three of the day's events, beginning with a long jump of 18-10 (5.74m), followed by a javelin throw of 124-8 (38.00m), and concluding with an 800-meters time of 2:28.58.
 
Her javelin throw was third best among the 48 remaining competitors while her long jump was eighth-best.
 
During the two-day competition, Morrison set PRs in four of the seven disciplines and also surpassed her previous best for Day 1, Day 2, and overall point totals.
 
Also competing in the event was sophomore Kayla Kirk, who finished 44th overall.  On Thursday, the 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu native jumped 15-1.25 (4.60m) in the long jump, threw the javelin 86-4 (26.31m), and clocked in at 2:39.53 in the 800-meters.
 
Over at the CSULA Twilight Open, Alex Porlier Langlois achieved personal bests in both the shot put and discus events. The St-Cesaire, Quebec native, won the discus with a throw of 168-7 (51.39m) and placed second in the shot with a throw of 49-7 (15.11m). The marks place her No. 2 all-time in the shot and No. 4 all-time in the discus.
 
Returning from injury, Charlinda Ioane improved on her seasonal-best in the discus with a throw of 149-11 (45.71m) while freshman Sabrina Mendoza had a personal best of 134-1 (40.87m).
 
In the pole vault competition, Amber Kozaki and Robyn Morioka both cleared 12-6 (3.81m) placing second and third, respectively. Juli Powell also improved on her seasonal-best with a clearance of 11-6.25 (3.51m).
