University of Hawai'i women's track and field thrower
Jacqueline Donovan threw a personal-best of 115-9 (35.28m) in the javelin on the first day of the Rainbow Relays, Friday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
Donovan, a junior from Honolulu, eclipsed her previous best throw by nearly four meters (13 feet) to qualify the Big West Championships next month. Donovan has already qualified in the hammer throw, having done so at the Randall Cunningham Invitational in Las Vegas last month.
Donovan finished third in the event behind teammates
Kaleigh Morrison and
Shayna Dockery. Morrison won the event with a throw of 126-0 (38.41m) while Dockery threw 122-8 (37.39m).
Sophomore
Kayla Kirk also threw a personal best of 81-11 (24.97m) and placed fifth.
The Rainbow Relays continues on Saturday at the Ching Athletics Complex. Part of the meet is a dual-match between Big West rivals UH and Cal State Northridge. Two years ago, the Rainbow Wahine beat the Matadors in the same meet.
Admission is free to the public.
