Women's Hoops Falls at Cal State Fullerton, 61-42

FULLERTON, Calif.—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (16-12, 10-6 Big West) fell to Cal State Fullerton (12-17, 8-8) on the road at Titan Gym, 61-42. Sydney Haydel led UH with 10 points while Destiny King had a team-high seven rebounds. Morgan Mason dished out a career-high five assists in the loss.
 
Haydel was 4-of-11 from the floor and 2-of-2 with five rebounds. It marked the ninth time that she has scored in double-digits and the fifth time that she led UH with a game-high in points.
 
King was one point shy of recording her second career double, recording nine points on 3-of-11 shooting. King also chipped in with a steal as well.
 
Mason had just two points on the night, but  had her career-high five assists with five rebounds and a steal.
 
Hawai`i kept the game close early on in the first half and took the lead by one point at the 11:48 mark in the first half when Marissa Wimbley drained a trey. But the Titans would battle back, ending the half on a 17-to-2 run to go into the break with a 31-15 lead which the 'Bows could not recover from.
 
The 'Bows scored a season-low 42 points in the game with their second-lowest field-goal percentage at 29.1%. Hawai`i continued their streak of holding opponents to below their season average in rebounding at 10. The Titans outscored UH 20-12 in points in the paint and 16-to-14 in points off of turnovers. Hawai`i's bench however, outscored CSF's reserves, 13-to-9.
 
Hawai`i will remain on the road for this coming week's Big West Tournament. The 'Bows will be the No. 3 seed while Cal State Northridge earning the top seed with a 12-4 conference record and Cal Poly coming in second at 11-5. UC Irvine captured the No. 4 seed with a 10-6 BWC record.

The 'Bows earn a first round bye as the No. 3 seed and will face the lowest remaining seed standing following Tuesday's games between No. 5 UC Davis vs. No. 8 UC Santa Barbara and No. 6 Long Beach State vs. No. 7 Cal State Fullerton. Hawai`i will play t 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 12. The game will be aired on ESPN3. The first two rounds will be played at Long Beach State's Walter Pyramid. The semi-final and championship game will be played at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. (Big West Tournament Bracket).
