Women's Tennis Heads to California for Three Big West Matches

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (7-7, 2-1 Big West) takes its five-match win-streak on the road to California for a trio of Big West Conference matches. Hawai'i begins its trip at UC Santa Barbara (4-12, 2-1 Big West) on Monday, March 24. The Rainbow Wahine will then head up to San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly (0-3, 3-7 BWC) on March 26 before concluding their roadtrip at UC Irvine (9-5, 4-0 BWC) on March 29.

The Rainbow Wahine evened their record at 7-7 with their five-match win streak that started with a road sweep over UC Riverside and followed with four home wins over No. 51 Idaho, Sacred Heart, Pacific and Grand Canyon.

Leading the 'Bows is freshman Cindy Nguyen who has won eight of her last nine matches—including the last five straight in the No. 1 position.  No. 3 singles player Martina Kostalova has also won her last five matches in a row. In doubles, UH's No. 1 duo of Xenia Suworowa and Paulina Petriskova has won their last three matches to help lead the Rainbow Wahine to their victories.

The Gauchos most recently snapped their three-match losing streak with an impressive win by edging out No. 53 Kansas State this past Saturday, 4-3. UCSB's match against UH will be their second of their five-match homestand.

The Cal Poly Mustangs have won one of their last six matches. Their most recent win came on March 8 over Pacific, 4-3. Kathryn Webb has won her last two matches and is 6-2 overall with most of her matches coming on the No. 5 court. In doubles, the No. 1 team of Jennifer Cornea and Ane McPike are 4-5 to lead the Mustangs.

Defending Big West champions, UC Irvine is tied for the league-lead with a 4-0 record in conference matches. Overall, the Anteaters are 9-5 and they are riding a six-match win streak. Most recently, the 'Eaters earned a pair of tight, 4-3 wins over Furman and Penn before defeating Wyoming, 5-2 on March 22. Ali Facey has a team-best 16-7 singles record, going 6-5 at No. 4 and 1-0 in the No. 3 slot. Sarah Stadfelt is second on the team with a 15-9 singles mark while Kat Facey is 14-6 overall. In doubles, UCI's duo of Alif Facey and Goettsching has a team-best 9-6 record and is 8-5 at the No. 1 spot.
