TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team tied for 12
th at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, which concluded on Sunday with the third and final round at the Karsten Golf Course.
The Rainbow Warriors shot a final round 296 to finish 879 (293-290-296) and were tied with Colorado State. No. 32 Arizona State ran away with the title at 817, 20 strokes better than runner-up No. 46 Iowa.
Individually, ASU's Jon Rahm ran away with the title with a final round 66 to finish 21-under 192. Arizona's Alex McMahon was runner-up at 13-under 200.
Senior
Nainoa Calip was UH's top finisher at 4-over 217 and a tie for 32
nd. One stroke back was junior
Brian Lee, who shot 73 on Sunday and finished 5-over 218 and a tie for 37
th.
For the second straight day, junior
Ryan Kuroiwa posted a solid showing with a 1-over 72. The 'Aiea, O'ahu native bounced back with rounds of 71 and 72 after starting the tournament with an 83 and finished at 226 to tie for 65
th.
Senior
Tommy Yamashita and freshman
Zachary Braunthal tied for 71
st at 229.
The Warriors will return to O'ahu and will compete in the Aloha @ Hawaii Invitational at the Turtle Bay Resort, March 27-28.
