TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Hawaii men's golf team moved up one spot to 13
th after the second round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational Saturday at the Karsten Golf Course.
The Rainbow Warriors improved three strokes from its first round 293 with a second round 290 for a 583 total. Host Arizona State maintains its lead with a 543 total, 10 strokes better than Iowa State, who surged past No. 46 Iowa for the second spot.
Individually, ASU's Jon Rahm shot 7-under 64 for a two-day total of 16-under 126. Arizona's Alex McMahon shot the low round of the day of 62 and is 10-under 133 for the tournament.
UH's highest individual is senior
Nainoa Calip who shot even par 71 for the second straight day and is tied for 24
th at 142. The Hilo, Hawaii native's round included three birdies and an eagle at the par-5 No. 14 hole, his fifth hole of the day.
Junior
Brian Lee is three strokes back at 3-over 145 after a second round 74. The biggest improvement was made by junior
Ryan Kuroiwa, who shot 71 after a disappointing 83 in his opening round on Friday. Kuroiwa carded six birdies during his up-and-down round, which also included four bogeys and a double-bogey.
Also competing for the Warriors are freshman
Zachary Braunthal, who shot 74 and is tied for 68
th at 151 and senior
Tommy Yamashita, who is tied for 72
nd at 153 after a second round 79.
The tournament concludes on Sunday with the final round.
