TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team currently sits in 14
th place following the first round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational Friday at the Karsten Golf Course.
 
The Rainbow Warriors shot an 9-over 293 while senior 
Nainoa Calip and junior 
Brian Lee are tied for 22
nd after each fired even-par 71.
 
Host and No. 32 Arizona State holds a seven-stroke lead over No. 46 Iowa. The Sun Devils shot 13-under 271 as a team while Jon Rahm holds the individual lead after a 9-under 62.
 
Calip, a senior from Hilo, Hawai'i, who tied for 68
th at the same event a year ago, carded four birdies including at No. 5 and 7, his 14
th and 16
th holes of the day, to get back to even par for the day. Lee, a junior from Honolulu, got off to a great start with four birdies through his five holes.
 
Senior 
Tommy Yamashita is tied for 53
rd at 3-over 74 while freshman 
Zachary Braunthal shot 77 and is tied for 67
th. Junior 
Ryan Kuroiwa struggled and shot 83.
 
The tournament continues on Saturday with the second round and wraps up on Sunday with the third and final round.
