HONOLULU – Marc Flores belted a game-tying solo homerun in the seventh inning, Austin Wobrock hit the gamewinner in the ninth and the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball team rallied to beat the University of Alabama-Birmingham 5-4 on Thursday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

With the game even at 4-4 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Austin Wobrock hit a bases-loaded comebacker that was too much for UAB reliever Cory Eller to handle. The ball ricocheted off his glove allowing Juliene Jones to race home from third and give the 'Bows the win.

The 'Bows (10-11) trailed 4-2 heading to their half of the ninth after a three-run homer by UAB pinch hitter Adam Lau put the Blazers ahead. Marc Flores (2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI) sliced the lead in half with an RBI single, driving home Ventimilia from third to cut the lead to 4-3. Adam Hurley then tied the game on a two-strike bloop single allowing Kaeo Aliviado (1 H, 1 R) to score, and Wobrock's hit on the next at bat won the game.

Matt Cooper allowed one run on eight hits in six and two-thirds innings but did not factor in the decision. He was lifted in the seventh inning for Andrew Jones (1-1) who picked up the win in two and one-third innings of work.

Wobrock had two hits and two RBI and Stephen Ventimilia batted 2-4 with one run.

Thomas Lowery (2-1) was the pitcher of record for the Blazers (16-6), allowing three runs in one and a third innings. UAB starter Chase Mallard allowed one earned run on four hits in seven complete innings.

UAB opened the scoring with a run in the second inning. Jeff Schalk (2 H, 2 R) led off the game with a base hit then, after stealing second, was driven home on a Mitch Williams (1 H, 1 R, 1 RBI) double.

The 'Bows finally drew level with a run in the sixth inning. Hurley reached base on an error and moved into scoring position on a Trevor Podratz ground out. Hurley then scored on Wobrock's single up the middle to tie the game.

The series continues on Friday night at 6:35 p.m.
