HONOLULU— The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (7-7, 2-1 Big West) extended their winning streak to five matches as they beat Grand Canyon (6-5, 1-0 Western Athletic), 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine took the early lead as they captured the doubles point. The No. 3 pair Sarah Gealer and Kelsey Daguio won the first match against GCU's Silvia Tumova and Taylor Young, 8-1. The Lopes would strike back on the No. 2 court, as Janaki Gunuganti and Frederique Van de Velde beat Cindy Nguyen and Rebecca Faltusz, 8-4. In the deciding match UH's No. 1 duo Xenia Suworowa and Paulina Petriskova defeated GCU's Priscilla Annoual and Tatum Prudhomme, 8-5, to give the 'Bows the doubles point.

UH would dominate in singles to capture the match. No. 4 Petriskova cruised past the Lopes' Van de Velde, 6-1, 6-2. The 'Bows' No. 5 Gealer earned the second win as she almost shut out GCU's Tumova, 6-0, 6-1. On the No. 1 court Nguyen would seal the victory for UH, outplaying Annoual, 6-2, 6-3. The 'Bows' Daguio earned a victory against the Lopes' Young in the closest match of the day, 6-0, 2-6, 6-0, in the No. 6 position. UH's No. 3 Martina Kostalova won the final match of the day against GCU's Gunuganti in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.   

The 'Bows will play their next match on the road against Big West opponent UC Santa Barbara on March 24 in Santa Barbara, Calif. The match will start at 12:00 p.m. PT.
