HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball team needed just two outs to claim its first win, but a ninth-inning rally by No. 6 Oregon kept the 'Bows winless in a 6-5 extra-inning loss on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.
 
The 'Bows trailed by one run heading into the eighth inning before an Alan Baldwin pinch-hit single scored two runs and gave UH a 5-3 lead heading into Oregon's half of the ninth. Jordan DePonte, pitching in relief of starter Scott Squier, could not hold the lead for Hawai'i as the Ducks tied the game and won it one inning later on the heels of an Austin Wobrock throwing error.
 
Wobrock, despite allowing Oregon's go ahead run to score in the 10^th inning, led the 'Bows with three hits and one run scored. With two outs and the bases loaded, Connor Hoffman hit what appeared to be a routine grounder to Wobrock who fielded it cleanly but bounced his throw to Marcus Doi at first allowing Tyler Baumgartner to score what proved to be the game winner.
 
Both starters worked seven complete innings but neither factored in the decision. Squier allowed two runs on three hits and struck out eight Duck hitters. Matt Krook had eight strikeouts of his own while allowing two unearned runs on five hits. Jake Reed (1-0) earned the win in two and one-third innings of relief.
 
Doi had another solid performance for UH. He scored a pair of runs and drove in another to extend Hawai'i's lead in the eighth inning. Trevor Podratz added a pair of RBI.
 
The 'Bows will look to grab their first win of the season when they meet the Ducks on Monday at 1:05 p.m. in the series finale.
