SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (2-7, 1-1 Big West) were defeated 6-1 by No. 48 San Diego State (3-3, 0-0 MWC) on Monday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
 
San Diego State took the early lead as they snatched the doubles point to begin the match. The Aztecs No. 1 pair Laura Antonaña Iriarte and Kristin Bush won the first match of the day defeating the 'Bows' Xenia Suworowa and Paulina Petriskova, 8-3.  UH's No. 2 pair of Rebecca Faltusz and Cindy Nguyen played a competitive match against SDSU's Dora Somoracz and Hailey Johnson, but fell short 8-6, giving the Aztecs the doubles point. UH's No. 3 duo of Sarah Gealer and Martina Kostalova played the closest contested match of the day, falling to Tami Nguyen and Isabelle Hoorn in a tie breaker, 8-7 (5).
 
The 'Bows fought hard, but were unable to break through in singles play. UH's No. 1 Nguyen played hard but was defeated by SDSU's Antonaña Iriate in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. On the No.3 court the 'Bows' Suworowa came up short in straight sets to SDSU's Nguyen, 6-1, 6-4.  UH's No. 2 Martina Kostalova needed to win her match to keep UH's match hopes alive. Her efforts were thwarted by SDSU's Bush, 6-2, 6-4, giving the Aztec's the victory. Petriskova gave the 'Bows their lone victory, going past the Aztecs Johnson, 6-4, 6-1.
 
Hawai'i will next play against UC Riverside on February 27th in Riverside, Calif. The match will start at 12:00 p.m. PT.
