HONOLULU – It was a happy Senior Night for the Rainbow Wahine faithful as the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team, in a must win match, concluded the regular season with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-15 sweep of UC Davis on Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Following the win, seniors
Kalei Adolpho and
Sarah Mendoza were honored along with
Ginger Long who will be departing the program after four seasons.
Nikki Taylor led a well-balanced Rainbow Wahine performance with nine kills and four blocks.
Olivia Magill had eight kills and five blocks,
Tai Manu-Olevao recorded nine kills and four digs, and
Kalei Adolpho had eight kills with no errors.
Allie Wegener led the Aggies with nine kills and nine digs.
The 'Bows (21-6, 13-3 BWC) got off to a solid start in set one, as a Mendoza ace and Adolpho kill helped UH to an early 9-4 lead. The pace would not continue however as the Aggies went on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to one point, but UH regrouped and pulled away down the stretch.
Set two saw another good start for Hawai'i. Adolpho,
Kalei Greeley, and
Tayler Higgins all got in on three straight blocks to lift the 'Bows to a 10-3 lead. The Aggies hung around, never letting the set get away from them until back-to-back kills from Taylor and Adolpho gave the 'Bows a 17-9 lead.
Set three proved to be a formality as the 'Bows made quick work of the Aggies (15-14, 10-6 BWC) to complete the sweep.
With the regular season behind them, the Rainbow Wahine await their NCAA Tournament fate as the field of 64 will be announced on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. HT).
