WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team wrapped up its fall competition schedule against No. 8 Stanford in an exhibition match on Monday. The Cardinal, who's team features four pre-season ranked players, took every court in singles and doubles.
Stanford swept both doubles matches over the 'Bows. UH's duo of Sarah Gealer and Cindy Nguyen had the closest doubles match of the day, falling 8-3 to Stanford's Caroline Doyle and Ellen Tsay.
Stanford won all six singles matches, however, UH nearly pulled off wins on a few courts. UH junior, Sarah Gealer took No. 22 Taylor Davidson to the wire before falling 7-6 (6), 6-3. Freshmen Viktoria Malova extended No. 49, Ellen Tsay to three sets in a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 loss. The tightest match of the day came from court No. 1 where sophomore Cindy Nguyen battled against No. 17 Carol Zhao in three sets, but Zhao edged out Nguyen in the end, 7-5, 6-7(4), 12-10. The match conclueded the Rainbow Wahine's fall schedule. The next time the 'Bows take the court is Jan 8-10, 2015 with the Rainbow Wahine Invitation on the island of Maui.
