SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team won the Pacific Coast Fall Championship (Nov. 15-16), hosted by UC Santa Barbara over the weekend. The 'Bows swept all three divisions, and outdid 23 other squads for the title.
Weather conditions were optimal through both days, with the breeze at about 6-12 knots for the vast portion of the regatta and temperatures remaining in the low 70's. Day 1 was smooth sailing for UH, as they finished it off in the lead.
On the second day of the championships, the breeze steadily picked up throughout the afternoon into the 8-12 range. The Stanford women's team inched behind UH in a tight race, but the 'Bows stayed focused towards a strong finish and won both three division and two division regattas.
UH defeated top-notch teams Stanford, USC, UC Berkeley and host UC Santa Barbara for the fall title. The 'Bows compete next on the East Coast, Nov. 21-23 at the ICSA Match Race National Championship in Centre Island, N.Y.
