Photo GalleryHONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team concluded its first tournament of the year with another solid day on the court. The Rainbow Wahine won two-of-three doubles and five-of-seven singles matches on the final day of the UH Anuenue Invitational at Monday morning at the UH Tennis Complex.
In doubles, UH's
Paulina Petriskova and
Sarah Gealer cruised to an 8-3 win over Vivian Hansen and Julia Sauer of Hawai'i Pacific, 8-3. Hawai'i duo Martina Kostalova and
Cindy Nguyen defeated HPU's Lorena Gheorghe and Kristyna Hancarova, 8-5 but the 'Bows'
Viktoria Malova and
Rebecca Faltusz fell to the Sharks' Lea Kruse-Utermann and Sofia Tavitian, 8-4.
All of Monday morning's singles matches were decided in two sets. Nguyen dominated HPU's Hansen, 6-0, 6-3 to start the 'Bows off. Faltusz then defeated HPU's Tavitian, 6-2, 6-2 and Malova pulled away from the Sharks' Hancarova, 6-4, 6-1.
Sarah Gealer played twice on Monday. In her first match, she won the first set 6-1 but Kruse-Utermann then retired in the second set to give Gealer the win. Gealer then defeated Chaminade's Kim Takara, 6-3, 6-2.
Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals in San Diego, Calif. from Oct. 16-20. The 'Bows then return home to host the Weinman Foundation Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex from Nov. 7-9.
