VIDEO: Match Highlights and Senior CeremonyWAIPAHU, Oahu – UC Davis played the role of spoiler handing the University of Hawai`i women's soccer team a 2-1 loss on Senior Night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in the Big West with their fourth straight loss.
With the loss UH was mathematically eliminated from contention for the Big West Tournament. UH sits in ninth place with just two matches remaining as the top four teams advance to the post-season tournament.
It was an unfortunate final home result for six players—
Alexis Colacchio,
Korinne Estrada,
Ashley Haruki,
Hayden Gibson,
Krystal Pascua and
Olivia Stanford—who were honored at the conclusion of the match as part of Senior Night ceremonies.
The Aggies got on the board first when Lindsey O'Tousa sent a rocket from 25 yards out that ripped to the back of the UH net in the 17th minute. UH responded less than 10 minutes later when
Storm Kenui fired a shot from 20 yards out that slipped out of the grasp of UCD goalkeeper Taylor Jern. It was the team-leading sixth goal of the season for the sophomore.
The decisive goal game on a roller coast sequence of events in the 31st minute. The Aggies were awarded a penalty kick but UH goalkeeper
Erica Young came up with a huge stop on a Mari Pastor attempt. But immediately after the save, UH committed another foul in the box and were awarded yet another penalty kick. Marija Ana Sola made good on the subsequent attempt as the Aggies took a 2-1 lead into the break.
UH continued to put pressure on the Aggies throughout the second half. Its best chance came when
Madison Reed got deep into the UC Davis defense but her cross in front of the mouth of the UCD goal went untouched. UH ended the match with a 13-5 advantage in shots, including 5-1 in the second half.
The Rainbow Wahine will close the season on the road with a pair of matches at UC Irvine (Oct. 30) and CSUN (Nov. 2).
