WAIPAHU, O`ahu – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team opened its Big West schedule with a 2-1 loss to Cal State Fullerton Thursday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.  Rebecca Wilson scored both Titan goals—one in each half—to lift her team to victory.

The Titans (3-7-2, 1-0 BWC) took a 2-1 lead midway through the second half, but needed to survive a barrage of UH shots in the waning minutes. Titan goalkeeper Jennifer Stuart tallied nine saves to help preserve the victory as Fullerton beat UH (5-6, 0-1 BWC) for the third straight year by a one-goal margin.

UH got on the board first—as they have done for the majority matches this year. Krystal Pascua poked a ball into the middle of the box and younger sister Kama Pascua out-battled a Titan defender for it,  before launching a left-footer from 12 yards out that sneaked in right below the cross bar. Fullerton responded in the 31st minute when Wilson's flying header off a Collen Ortega corner kick knotted things up at 1-1.

UH looked to seize the lead early in the second half but came up empty as two shots—one by Storm Kenui and the other by Kama Pascua—bounced off the crossbar in the opening 13 minutes of the second half. The Titans, instead took the lead, when Wilson again scored on a header, this time off a free kick by Brianna Champman in the 69th minute.

The final 10 minutes were frenetic as UH surged forward with purpose. UH unleashed four shots on goal in the final six minutes of regulation, but came up empty each time, including a close-range opportunity by Sonest Furtado in the 88th minute that was stuffed by Stuart. UH out-shot the Titans 20-10 for the match, including 13-6 in the second half.

The Rainbow Wahine return to action when they host UC Riverside in Big West action on Sunday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is 5:00 p.m. at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
