"Lucky Loser" Results

SAN DIEGO, Caif.-- The USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships continued with members of the University of Hawai`i women's tennis team competing in the main draw and consolation matches. Four Rainbow Wahine were in action on Saturday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. 

In the main draw quarterfinal match, Pepperdine's No. 2-seed Lorraine Guillermo held of UH's No. 8 seed, Cindy Nguyen in a hard fought match, 7-5,6-2. 

In the "Consolation" round, Sarah Gealer survived two rounds to advance to the consolation semifinal. Loyola Marymount's Lauri Mueller withdrew due to an injury which put Gealer in the consolation quarterfinal. She then faced off against another LMU opponent, Andrea Crespo where they battled it out in three sets. Gealer won the first set 6-4, but Crespo punched back to win the second set 6-1. In the third set decided by a 10-point tiebreaker, Gealer got off to a slow start, trailing 0-7, but came back firing winning seven straight points to tie it at 7-7. In the end, Gealer came away with the victory, edging out Crespo in the third set tiebreaker 10-8 to advance to the consolation semifinal match on Sunday.

In the "Lucky Loser" matches, Long Beach State's Maeva Razakasoa held off UH's Martina Kostalova, 6-2, 6-1 while Haley Thompson (LBSU) defeated Rebecca Faltusz 6-0, 6-1. 

The Rainbow Wahine continue play in the tournament on Sunday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
