Box Score (pdf)WAIPAHU, Oahu – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine soccer team dropped its third straight match with a 2-0 loss to Long Beach State Thursday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine fell to 6-9 overall and 1-4 in the Big West.
The 49ers (6-5-2, 2-1-2 BWC) got a goal from all-conference forward Mimi Rangel in the first half and added an insurance goal by Vania Robles in the second half to pick up the road win. The loss was a major blow for the UH's postseason hopes as the Rainbow Wahine have just three matches—including two on the road—to make up for some serious ground. The top four teams in the regular-season standings advance to the Big West Tournament.
Mimi Rangel got the 49ers on the board in the 28th minute when she lofted a left-footer from outside the corner of the box that floated over an out-stretch arm of
Erica Young and just inside the far post. UH actually doubled-up the 49ers in shots during the first half with three solid shots on goal, however came up empty.
UH had a chance to equalize less than a minute into the second half when
Krystal Pascua ripped a long shot that bounced off the right post. It proved to be a turning point in the match as a little more than five minutes later Robles put in a second LBSU goal that gave the 49er an insurmountable 2-0 lead.
Thes 'Bows out-shot the 49ers 13-7 for the match, but were out-of-sync for the majority of the match. As a result, the Rainbow Wahine were shutout in back-to-back matches for the first time all season. UH also remain winless against LBSU in the last six matches (0-5-1).
The Rainbow Wahine look to end its slide when it wraps up its home schedule versus UC Davis on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m. Six UH players will be honored following the match as part of Senior Night festivities.
