VIDEO: Pre-Game InterviewsHONOLULU – Fresh off a dramatic victory over Wyoming in its Mountain West opener, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior football team will return to mainland for a league game against San Diego State, Saturday, Oct. 18 at Qualcomm Stadium.
The Rainbow Warriors (2-4, 1-0 MW) enter the contest as the West Division leader by virtue of their win over the Cowboys last Saturday. UH overcame a 21-10 halftime deficit, and out-scored Wyoming 28-7 in the second half. UH quarterback
Ikaika Woolsey came off the bench to throw for two touchdowns and led the 'Bows to two more scoring drives while the defense held the Cowboys to only 93 yards of total offense.
The Aztecs (3-3, 2-1) defeated New Mexico, 24-14, in Albuquerque, N.M., last Friday. Running back Donnel Pumphrey rushed for 246 yards and two touchdowns while as a team, the Aztecs gained 397 yards on the ground. Pumphrey's two scoring runs went for 45- and 93-yards and the sophomore is among the nation's leaders in touchdowns (11) and rushing yards per game (134.5).
The former Western Athletic Conference rivals have met 36 previous times with the Aztecs holding a slim 18-17-1 advantage. SDSU has won the last six meetings in San Diego, including a 52-14 win in 2012. UH's last victory over the Aztecs in Qualcomm Stadium occurred in 1988.
