Women's Hoops Battles UC Irvine on Saturday

Game Notes

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (9-7, 3-1 Big West) battles UC Irvine (9-9, 2-2 Big West) on Saturday , Jan. 25 at 5:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. Hawai'i looks to remain alone in second place in its final home game before heading off on a two-week, four game roadtrip.

The 'Bows are coming off a convincing 64-50 victory over UC Davis on Thursday night in which Kamilah Jackson and the UH bench proved to be the difference. Jackson scored 14 of her 18 game-high points in the second half. She ended the game just one rebound shy of recording her 11th double-double of the season. But it was Hawai'i's stallworth defense and its strong bench which poured in 25 points and the power surge that propelled UH to their third straight win in conference. Reserves Ashleigh Karaitiana, Pua Kailiawa, Diane Moore and Marissa Wimbley all were key in  sparking the team to end the first half with a three-point lead, and then in the second half, in maintaining its double-digit lead over UC Davis.

Jackson continues to lead UH with 16.4 points and 10.3 rebounds a game. Karaitiana is second on the team with 10.3 points while Shawna-Lei Kuehu  has seemed to have found her groove as she's now averaging 10.1 points a game. Destiny King is second on the team with 5.6 rebounds and she has dished out a team-high 40 assists while Sydney Haydel leads the 'Bows with 18 steals and is averaging a career-high 6.2 points per game.

The UC Irvine Anteaters also enter Saturday's game after a win, defeating Cal State Northridge at the Matadome, 83-73 on Thursday. Senior forward Camille Buckley scored a career-high 31 points while securing a season-high 21 rebounds as UCI evened their overall and conference records at 9-9 and 2-2 respectively. Jennifer Tsurumoto leads the Anteaters, averaging 16.2 points a game with a team-high 57 assists. She also leads the Anteaters with 30 made 3-pointers and 92 made free throws. Buckley is averaging 15.4 points a game and with a team-high 9.4 boards a game.
