HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team's 19-to-6 run that bridged the first and second half proved to be too much for UC Davis to overcome as the 'Bows won their third consecutive Big West game, 64-50 on Thursday night in the Stan Sheriff Center. Hawai'i was led by Kamilah Jackson who finished with game-highs of 18 points and nine rebounds. The Rainbow Wahine bench came through in the clutch, scoring 25 of UH's 64 points. Hawai'i improved to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the Big West to put them alone in second place. UC Davis fell to 8-10 on the season and 3-2 in conference.

Jackson scored just four points in the first half, but came out of the break on fire, scoring 10 of UH's first 13 points to start the second half as part of the team's said 19-to-6 run. Jackson was just one rebound shy of recording her 11th double-double of the season. Jackson was 5-of-13 from the floor and for the second straight game was a  perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. She also had three assists, a block and a steal in 36 minutes of action.

Shawna-Lei Kuehu scored in double-figures for the third straight game, going 3-of-9 in field goals and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe. She chipped in with five rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.

It was Hawai'i's bench that made the difference in the game though, outscoring the UC Davis reserves 25-to-6. Ashleigh Karaitiana, Pua Kailiawa, Diane Moore and Marissa Wimbley all helped to spark the UH offense to the win. Karaitiana and Kailiawa both contributed nine points apiece—which was a season-high for Kailiawa, all scored in the second half, which helped UH maintain its double-digit lead down the stretch.

For three-quarters of the first half, it seemed as if there was a lid on the basket for the 'Bows. UH managed to score just 4-of-23 field goals for 17% in the first 15 minutes of the game. UC Davis led 15-11 with 5:00 left in the first half. Then the UH reserves helped trigger the struggling offense with back-to-back treys from Karaitiana and Wimbley plus a layup by Moore off a no-look bounce pass from Kailiawa that tied the game at 19-19. Two made free throws from Karaitiana and a pump-fake, fade away jumper from Kuehu with five seconds left on the clock helped to give UH a 25-22 lead going into the half. Hawai'i finished the first half shooting 26.7% from the floor. UH's bench accounted for 12 of UH's 25 points.

The Rainbow Wahine extended their lead as they came out of the break clicking on all cylinders on offense while the defense stifled the Aggies. UH later went on another run, going 13-to-3 against UCD to give them their biggest lead of the game of 19 points at 48-29 with 10:45 left in the game. The Aggies would chip away their deficit down to 11 with 5:18 left, but Kailiawa would drain a key 3-pointer that staggered UCD and swayed the momentum back to UH. Kailiawa would go on to score UH's last four points of the game with a pair of free throws and a layup off an assist from Jackson. In the second half, the 'Bows scored 12-of-24 field goals for 50% that gave them a 37.0% for the game.

Hawai'i outrebounded the Aggies, 38-to-27 and outscored their opponents 19-to-8 in the paint. The 'Bows defense came up huge again, holding the Aggies 16 points below their season average. UH hit a season-high 87.5% from the free throw line, sinking 21-of-24 free throws.

The Aggies were led by Sydnee Fipps who scored 17 points and Alyson Doherty who added 11 points.

The Rainbow Wahine return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 5:00 p.m. to battle UC Irvine.
