HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (1-4, 0-1 Big West) was defeated 5-2 by No. 42 Long Beach State (1-1, 1-0 Big West) on Monday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.

Hawai'i kept things close in doubles, but it was Long Beach State who prevailed to earn the doubles point, beginning the match with a pair of 8-5 wins. The 49ers No. 2 duo of Julie Gerard and Karolina Rozenberg battled past the 'Bows Paulina Petriskova and Rebecca Faltusz, then LBSU's No. 1 pair of Ebba Unden and Maeva Razakasoa defeated UH's Cindy Nguyen and Xenia Suworowa capture their second match to take the point.

The 49ers carried their momentum forward and won the first three singles matches in a row to seal their victory. Hawai'i would get its two victories from No. 6 Faltusz and No. 4 Sarah Gealer. Faltusz defeated LBSU's Gabriela Tilkeridisova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, while Gealer held off the 49ers' Hayley Thompson, 6-2, 6-4.

The Rainbow Wahine will next play on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Wailea Tennis Complex on Maui against Pac-12 opponent Washington State. Matches will start at 11:00 a.m.
